14" Nokona great outfielder glove...... minimal break in needed!
This glove is great for use in the outfield. Before purchasing this glove I had never heard of Nokona. I was looking to replace my old glove and started looking at what the better ball players were using and asking their opinion. Many of the best players were using the Nokona gloves and they told me break in time was minimal and without the use of oils, etc.I received my glove and after researching how the USA team breaks in their gloves, I found almost all of the team doesn't use oils or crazy gimmicks. They just break it in playing catch and using it during practice...... some use heavy ball.... and then they keep a ball in the glove for storage. I did the same and was able to use for game play almost immediately. I'm very pleased.
ProsThe gloves are American made. With the name Nokoma I had assumed they were made somewhere in Japan or Asia. But, it turns out they are made in Nocoma (with a ?C? not a ?K?) Texas. The Price on this site was great. On other sites the glove was being sold for $249. On this site it was on sale for $219 and along with a coupon for $20 off , I paid only $199 and shipping was free. Break in time is minimal and no oil is needed. I used a heavy ball to play catch a couple times and then tried using it during an open hitting practice shagging flys. Then I was able to start using in games with confidence.
ConsWhen I received the Glove it was stiffer than I had expected. A friend of mine said he started using it immediately out of the box so I just assumed it would be soft and loose. I was looking for a quick break in time so this had me a little worried. But in the end I found the break in was fairly quick and I found that a little stiffness was good for keeping a good pocket shape.
